The Future’s Not What It Used To Be..

So, as a huge King Blue’s fan I listened to Itch on Radio 1’s interview today, where he was talking about their new album and the first song he chose to introduce was “The Future’s Not What Is Used To Be”;

It belongs within the Ska-Punk category and has a very ‘Ghost Town’ by the Specials feel to it, I’d always kind of related the this song to the Specials but when Itch actually said, on the radio that he wrote this song during the time when the new government came into power and he ‘saw people’s futures kinda being taken away’ and the song going through is head was ‘Ghost Town’. He said he was trying to go back to that, to try and find hope in a hopeless situation.

I’m going to University in September, one of the thousands attempting to go this year - before the prices triple next year and working class can no longer afford to go realistically. So many people that I know are shaking their heads and saying they are just going to try find jobs, or try and get some sort of funded course - like the Nursing Diplomas. But even the diplomas are being faded out.

I still wonder how the hell we, as a society, thought voting in Tories was going to accomplish for our country. For out youth. Of course, the middle and upper class are going to benefit - they’re going to do just fucking great.

But there are going to be thousands upon thousands of people unable to go to university next year because they just can’t afford it. The country is heading back in the direction of civil unrest and huge barriers between the different classes within England.
